Sited on the slopes of Thyolo Mountain, this historic tea planters' bungalow is a relaxed, family friendly retreat surrounded by some of our rare protected subtropical rainforests which are home to a variety of endemic and special species of birds making the property an ideal choice for birding enthusiasts.

 

The house has four bedrooms and sleeps 8 people in double beds. Three rooms have on suite bathrooms with both shower and bathtubs and one bedroom has only a shower and toilet on suite.

While the house is self catered, Chawani guests are welcome to spoil themselves and book a meal at Huntingdon House or relax and allow the Chawani team of house staff , Alec , to assist you in the preparation of your own meals. ​

​With its beautiful manicured gardens and panoramic views – Chawani has been sensitively maintained to retain the rustic character and charm, which have made this property enormously popular with visitors to the highlands for decades. The house also have newly installed geysers for all the rooms. 

 

Chawani Bungalow is located about 3 km from Huntingdon House on a dirt road. A high clearence veichle is recommended and there might be a need of a 4WD in the rainy season. 

 

There is a small Swimming pool in the garden. But please be aware if you have small children that can't swim that the fencing is not 100% and Satemwa lodges can not be held resposible for any accidents.

Malawi are facing a lot of problems with electricity. It is something that is out of our control and we apologise in advance. 

We have a small generator that can be run for a few hours everyday to take the edge off the darkness and there is also a gas oven. If you want to run the generator for longer we are happy to provided fuel for cost price.
